In 1995 David was approached by the training staff at Scottish Hydro-Electric plc to design a cost effective solution to record and analyse competence held by 1200 staff throughout Scotland.

The system we introduced allowed Scottish Hydro-Electric to undertake a comprehensive training needs analysis to identify training gaps and implement safety training based on competence. The system was a resounding success and helped contribute to a significant improvement in safety throughout the company.

Airport safety - CAP699

In 1998, trading as Redkite Systems Ltd, David was invited by the Safety Regulation Group, United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority to present a possible solution to help licenced aerodromes manage the CAP 699 competence standards. Working in consultation with industry experts Redkite Systems provided a competence management system for the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) which has helped ARFFS meet the requirements of CAP699 as well as manage day to day and mandatory safety training.

Update: In 2008 63 licenced aerodromes in the UK have adopted the system. It had also been adopted by airports in Bolivia and Germany.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service - Safety at Work

The Redkite Personal Development System was developed in consultation with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and other industry experts.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service - Equipment Safety

The Redkite Equipment Management System was developed in collaboration with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service to meet the needs of Technical Bulletin 1/94 and subsequent 'expectations documents'. Cited as an example of 'best practice' by Her Majesty's Fire Service Inspectorate in 2001, the system has been widely adopted. It is now web based and can be used with the companion module EMS Mobile.

EMS Mobile is based on the Psion Workabout Pro and uses the latest in wireless / GPRS technology to capture information from barcode and / or RFID.
